How to Be Confident in Your Career Video From Classy Career Girl There is one thing that I hear over and over again from young professional women who are just starting out in the professional world. How do I build up my confidence at work?  Today, I want to share with you a presentation I  did for a group of high school girls at Oceanside High Schools Girls Empowerment Conference. I tried to make most of the tips useful to women at any age so I think you will enjoy the video and also get a lot out of it! Be confident today! A few takeaways from the How to Be Confident presentation: Having a positive  attitude can double the chances of career success. Being an introvert can make you afraid to put yourself out there, but you can overcome it!  Almost every aspect of our lives is affected by self-confidence -interviews, salary negotiations, networking events, sports, presentations, and more! Self-confidence can be learned through practice, it isnt an innate skill that you are born with. Confidence can be shown through what we wear, what we say, and how we act. Dress appropriately, but show your style and self-confidence  through your fashion you will feel more confident when you like what you are wearing. Demand attention by conveying confidence through your voice and your posture. Make sure you are tracking and celebrating your wins, no matter how small they are. Accept compliments, dont downplay your successes when someone comments on them. Take control of your wins and celebrate them. Make a list of 50 things that you do really, really well. It sounds like a lot, but it is easy to overlook your success as time goes on. Have faith in yourself. Be happy. Feel good. I truly believe that portraying self-confidence is the first key to building a successful career. I really hope this video will help you build your own self-confidence!

There are two practices that are the cornerstone to success in getting to know who you know: Use social media to earn a face to face meeting Thank them and follow-up Use social media to deepen the connection Use online and offline networking in tandem to develop and grow your connections. Relationship building is nurtured with time. The more time invested the more opportunity to get to know each other.   Learning about each others goals, accomplishments, objectives and interests is a solid way to discover a common frame of reference and generate a stronger bond. Through social, online interactions you are provided the opportunity to share your common frames of reference and to also sample each others character and competence. Any of us can sound wonderful in short bursts and interactions.   Its that continued interaction and consistency that develops a level of trust that will strengthen the connection with this person and thus develop your network. Who in your social network lists would you like to meet face to face? Who have you developed rapport and trust with already that you would like to spend some face to face time with? Use social to get to know their interests, what they value, who they are and who they influence or connect with, too. Ask yourself: Is this someone that you would like to know better? Do they value you and you them? Online networking provides you (and your connection) the opportunity to gain confidence in each other.   And, used to augment you offline networking and relationship building it will help you in becoming more adept about communicating in different formats and provide the trust level needed to even know your contact better. If you use social site networking to build deeper relationships with fewer people, it will also develop your influence. Then, use face time to take your relationship to the next level. Thank them and follow up When someone has taken the time to take an online relationship and meet face to face, then do thank them.   Even a simple handwritten note can go a long way in developing the relationship. Most importantly its time to follow-up on what you agreed to or promised in your face to face meeting?   Or, even ways you can help. When you met face to face, they might have asked for something or you may have agreed to do or send something be sure to follow-through.   You want to be trusted that what you say is what youll do. Also, when you meet take the time to really   listen, to get to know them.   The purpose of your face-to-face meeting is to deepen your relationship, to finally meet and to get to know each other.   Its not to sell something. Spend most of your time listening and getting to know them. As you do that, there will be something thats on their mind.   It could be a challenge or problem theyre trying to solve or it could be something they need assistance with. If you can help them or do something that would be helpful to something they value, that will exponentially accelerate the development of your relationship. For this week: Identify two people that are connections in one of your social sites and invite them for coffee, lunch or to meet face to face in an upcoming conference. Write a thank you note to someone you   met face-to-face with in the last couple of weeks. Post when youve done that below.   And, please share you stories of whats worked for you in developing your online and offline connections.

Are You Selling Yourself in Your Job Search - Hire Imaging A simple enough (and probably overused) phrase, “selling yourself” makes many job seekers squirm. In fact, it probably causes more unease than any other part of the job search.   My client Bob told me, “I feel I’m out there like a football game vendor’s hotdog on a tray.” It’s not pleasant for folks to feel as though they’re a product to be scrutinized, judged, raked over and despite best feet forward, rejected. The whole process is often belittling for many job seekers. George told me, “I hate pushing myself off on people. It’s as though I have to wear a sign around my neck, yell and point, ‘Hey, I’m here! Look at me now’ to get their attention.” Like George, quite a few job seekers feel that if they could just avoid having to sell themselves â€" if people just came looking for them â€" life would be good. It’s much more dignified not to have to make a sales pitch. It’s much less stressful on the mind and body to be pursued. Sure. But in a non-perfect world, you had better come to terms with selling yourself, because you will be in many situations where a job offer can depend upon how well you project your potential to an interested listener. Selling yourself may feel awkward at first, but it need not involve high-pressure tactics and can often occur in informal settings. The more you do it, the more natural it becomes. Breathe easy and dive in. You probably do it more than you know; you just don’t call it selling. Keep your momentum I’m going to assume that in your search, you’ve done some leg work and due diligence. You’ve rolled up your sleeves before now and worked hard. You’ve probably been  brainstorming options for what you want to do, researched to see where that might be, gone through a whole lot of weighing pros and cons, digging for information, finding people, researching jobs and companies, building a prospect list, and more. You’ve put a great deal of time and effort into this. That’s why the job search is called a job. It’s work. So if you’ve gotten yourself to windows of opportunities, why would you want to risk it all because you’re reluctant to sell yourself? Do you want to drop the ball now? Of course you don’t. But that’s what often happens if you don’t sell. This is important. You have to be willing to tell people who you are and what you can do. They won’t know if you can’t tell them. They won’t stop you at the market and say, “Gee, Mary, it’s really you! Weve been looking for an accountant like you! Even when you work hard to get the interview, the interviewer will not look you straight in the eyes and say, “Wow! You’re just what we’ve been looking for our perfect sales consultant!” When you’ve gotten the interview (good for you!), you want to show them more than credentials. And give them more than stock answers that sound positive but mean lets face it not much. “I’m really good with people.” (Ted, my English Cocker, is good with people). “I really want this job.” (Of course you do or you shouldn’t be there). “I’m a really hard worker.” (Did you think we wanted a lazy worker?) While these may be true statements, the interviewer has heard them a thousand times. What’s special about you? What sets you apart? What are you known for? And most importantly, how does it all fit with the job? What value are you going to give them in THIS JOB? So you’ve done a lot of work to get to this point. You should pat yourself on the back for finding jobs that you’re qualified for. You got the interview. Don’t lose your momentum now. Be prepared to talk about what they need  (and I’m assuming you’ve done thorough research on the company beforehand), their pain, and how you can help. Use a 3-step process There are 3 things that anyone canâ€"and should do to sell during the interview (and continued networking) phase. 1)         Give them reasons to want you. 2)         Tell them stories about yourself. 3)         Hone and use your social skills. It is a resume with the required skills that they believe can land him a job. In fact, this is the very first time that a child has been able to supply such a resume since it was available on the internet.A lot of people will see this as great news for Paul. In fact, he can use the advice that his parents gave him and work towards landing a job this month. There are many people who do not even know that it is possible to provide someone with a resume. Paul's parents have provided a way for others to access these resumes and so they can also benefit from them.The following is the script that Paul used when writing his resume. He had to show that he is a fun person to be around so that he would be taken seriously and could make friends easily.The next area of his resume is the highli ght for his parents because this is where they feel he is the most interested in. He stated that he is very interested in books and music. He also stated that he plays the piano and loves to watch movies.As stated above, Paul has provided a resume that can help him get a job. Although it is the first time that this resume is available online, it is the first time that a parent has given it to a child so that they can use it. Paul is very happy with the whole experience and will be utilizing it as he gets ready to start looking for a job.
